A TikTok video posted by @twohottakes tells the story of how a daughter pretended not to know her own parents due to the emotional scars of their past behavior.
This happened when her older sister fell seriously ill at the age of six, and as a result, she was “unceremoniously” left with her grandparents, who then passed her on to her uncle.

Her parents made the decision to send her away without any explanation whatsoever – they simply informed her that she would be staying with her grandmother for a brief period, but they never returned to bring her home.
Despite the lack of explanation from her parents, her uncle explained the situation to her later and ensured she fully understood why her parents did what they did.

With a growing distance between her and her parents, the OP made the choice to cut off all contact with them when she was just 12 years old.

Sadly, the OP's sister passed away between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and although she returned home from school for the funeral, she kept to the back and left before her biological parents could speak to her.
Her parents subsequently called her uncle so they could speak to her, but he told them that she wasn’t willing to talk to them at the moment.

It wasn't until Christmas when her parents finally caught up with her while she attended Midnight Mass with her gran.
They approached her and tried to give her a hug, but although she recognized them, she pretended not to and just backed away, saying, "Sorry, do I know you?"

"We're your parents," they replied, but she replied bluntly with, "My parents are at home," before moving to sit with her gran.
Her biological parents then sat behind them and the OP says that she could literally “feel the stare” at that point.

As they were leaving, her parents asked if she recognized them, to which she responded with a confused tone, "Oh, are you my dad's brother? I think I remember you from when I was little."

Despite the awkward encounter, the OP's biological parents later sent her a letter trying to explain themselves, stating that they were hurt and that they had always tried to do the right thing.
They also emphasized that they will always be her family, and that cannot be changed.
Family Drama Continues as Daughter Stands Her Ground Against Criticism

The grandmother believes that her biological parents deserve the cold shoulder treatment, trying to come back to her life like nothing ever happened.
On the other hand, some other family members criticized her for being “too harsh,” arguing that her parents were grieving and that she should be more considerate.
“But I don’t think they should get a pass just because they remembered me now that my sister is gone,” their daughter wrote.

Morgan, the host of Two Hot Takes, takes a strong stance against the parents and sides with their daughter in this case. Morgan's hot take on the matter is that having sick children doesn't give parents the right to sacrifice one for the other.
She emphasizes the importance of ensuring that both children are equally accommodated, cared for, and loved. In her's opinion, dropping off a six-year-old at grandma's and failing to check in shouldn’t get a pass.
She exclaims, "What the hell is wrong with you? This is disgusting!"

In addition to expressing her disgust at the parents' behavior, Morgan also took a moment to appreciate the daughter's blunt response. She was particularly impressed by how the daughter pretended not to recognize her own parents when they tried to give her a hug.
"This is perfect justice," said Morgan, with a voice filled with excitement. "This is like the most wholesome f**king story for me."
