"Don't Hire Gen Zs, They Don't Know What Work Actually Means": Store Manager Under Fire For Hiring Baby Boomers Only

A store manager posted a sign saying they were hiring "baby boomers" only. Explaining, they shared, "I apologize for us closing again."

The note further said, "My two new cashiers quit because I said their boyfriends couldn't stand here for their entire shift."

Forget millennials, blame Gen Z

The handwritten sign continued, "Don't hire Gen Zs. They don't know what work actually means."

It ended with "Now hiring," and below it read, "Baby boomers only!"

This did not sit well with many since boomers are already retired or near retirement. And Gen Zs do not need anyone's approval.

Social media users were amused

The post was shared on the subreddit antiwork. Many comments mocked baby boomers and wages.

One person shared, "It cracks me up that they think boomers would be less entitled than gen z."

Another added, "Hilarious they also think a boomer would work for minimum wage."

One of the most upvoted comments was a made-up conversation between two boomers, "HEY, you're a baby boomer! I'm a baby boomer! Work for me, and I'll pay you minimum wage, and we can talk all day about how great our generation is."

Gen Z is making waves

Gen Z, born between 1997 to 2012, is setting new work standards.

Gallup poll from 2022 revealed that 54% of Gen Z employees were ambivalent or unengaged at work. This generation, like millennials, feels underpaid and unmotivated.

Unlike millennials, Gen Zs have a clearer vision of what they think they deserve. They are well-informed, tech-savvy, and need a healthy work environment. Gen Zs do not mind switching jobs quickly since they know their worth.

More social media comments

On a more serious note, one Reddit user shared, "Someone has never worked with Baby Boomers in retail. They are just as prone to complain about management and avoid work as any Gen Z."

Another shared, "Apparently, the boyfriends were hanging out for the duration of their girlfriends' shifts because there was a creepy sc-mbag customer who was bothering them, and management refused to take action."

And another person simply remarked, "Do boomers and gen x not realize it's their kids that they are talking about?"

Encourage Gen Z workers

For this world to exist, Gen Z has to work. Millennials were called "snowflakes" and blamed for every single thing on the planet, which made the generation of people believe they were worth less.

However, Gen Zs care less about opinions and are more goal-oriented.

And not all boomers are against new generations and new ways of working.

One Reddit user shared, "Boomer here: applied at lots of places like that, out of desperation. Age discrimination is real, and I never got any job from those asinine window ads. FK those shops-- they got what they deserved. I am in full support of the younger generations refusing to put up with garbage like this."
