Man Takes a Hotel's Coffee Pot, Puts Raw Chicken in It for Cooking, So He Doesn't Have to Eat in a Restaurant While on a Business Trip To Save Money for His Company

A product manager in Texas apparently doesn’t mind "giving himself salmonella" by cooking chicken in the hotel’s coffee pot to save his company’s money, and hopefully, land a promotion as a result. This is what people thought at first when they saw Cohen's post...

LinkedIn is arguably the best business-related social media platform where people get to exchange experience, knowledge, and best practices in a professional environment.

However, there’s always room for humor on this serious platform — a product manager in Austin named Alexander Cohen shared his best money-saving advice to get promoted: cook your dinner in the hotel’s coffee machine instead of spending money on a fancy dinner out (even if your company allows you to expense dinner while traveling).

“Even though the hotel room didn’t have a kitchen, I managed to use the coffee machine to cook chicken with butter and garlic.” Cohen wrote.

“I wanted to save money because I know that every dollar counts on the P&L.” He continued, “It’s the little things that get you promoted.”

Unsurprisingly, the now-viral LinkedIn post has racked up over 1,500 likes, 400 comments, and 100 reposts, with many people impressed with his dedication to saving the company’s money, and others just trying to see the logic behind it.

One user even suggested a better way to cook dinner when your company has a restrictive expenses policy. He wrote, “Why don't you iron that chicken and add curry spices - use maximum heat?”

Another user was only concerned about the next guests who will drink chicken-flavored coffee. “what about the guests who will use that coffee machine after you? They have to drink a coffee with a chicken flavour.” He commented.

Cohen’s cost-cutting hack also went viral on Twitter, where several other users shared similar hotel horror stories.

The good news is, Cohen was only joking. He said:

“I wasn’t even traveling at the time,” He said to TODAY Food in a Twitter message. “I was actually at the Austin FC game at the time, and we were delayed because of rain so I figured I’d have some fun.”

Cohen believes that humor doesn’t have to die on the employment-oriented platform LinkedIn. “Work is work,” he said. “Go outside and enjoy life.”
