We've all been in situations where we're unhappy with the food or service at a restaurant. But does this mean we can deny payment for what we ordered? And do workers have the right to lock us inside the restaurant if we don't pay? A recent video filmed at a Japanese restaurant has sparked a debate on this topic.
One woman claimed she and her friends were locked inside Shogun, a Japanese restaurant in Huntsville, AL, as a result of someone in her group not paying the bill.
The TikTok video posted by @myhoneysmacks has reached a whopping 467k views by now.
The OP wrote in a text overlay: “They locked me in the restaurant because someone at the birthday dinner didn't pay.”
In the 40-second clip, a worker is shown playing the drum for the TikToker's table, and everyone appears to be in high spirits, clapping along.
The camera then transitions to a scene where another worker confronts the TikToker and her friends.
One of them starts arguing and expressing their dissatisfaction about the insufficient amount of vegetables they served her. “He didn't even give me many vegetables,” she says.
As the disagreement about the amount of veggies became heated, one of the women could be heard complaining about the rice too, saying, “Let’s just pull back the cameras and see how much rice I had.”
The worker asked the group of girls if they had previously visited the restaurant, and one of them answered, “yeah, I have.”
The women then burst out laughing because the worker wouldn't let them leave until they paid for what they had ordered.
In an effort to leave the restaurant without paying, one of the girls even threatened the worker by saying that they were recording everything: “This is on camera. This is on camera. You acting like that.”

The video received thousands of comments that served as a wake-up call for the girls who declined to pay for their order.
If the intention behind the OP's post of the video was to gain support from people, they might be disappointed by the number of comments that are not in their favor.
A lot of people thought that the employees at the restaurant did nothing wrong and that they should receive payment for their services.
“The restaurant has every right to expect to be paid. Get u a new friend. None of my friends would have me come out of my pocket on MY BIRTHDAY!” one user wrote.
“I don’t blame the restaurant. Pay your friends bill and then ask them to pay u back. Like this wasn’t necessary,” a second agreed.
“Bruh y’all can’t be acting like this in restaurants this ain’t right just pay for your friends,” a third added.
There were others who thought that the OP was upset with the wrong person and that the blame should fall on their friend who refused to pay for their food.
“that’s embarrassing. like yah mad at the restaurant. but ur friend didnt pay?? bein mad at the wrong ppl,” one commented.
“How you gnna plan a motive, dress up, eat, have a good time and end the night with receipt/payment dispute… that broke ish behaviour,” another pointed out.

Some even advised the OP to cut ties with this friend, saying “Y’all should’ve just paid and when y’all left handle that friend. She would definitely be cutting off. That girl should’ve said she ain’t have it!”
“I would’ve just paid / apologizedand never spoke to that “friend” again,” a second agreed.
“2023 we gotta stop with the broke friends!” a third added.
The argument about food in the restaurant was seen as hilarious by one user, writing, “Not you guys arguing about the veggies.”
“Chileeee y’all was gonna be the next Hibachi Meal cooked & served to the next customers.” another chimed in with a joke.
Apparently, the Japanese restaurant the girls were at isn't too pricey, so why argue over food and not pay for it? As one commenter put it, “Hibachi not even that expensive.”
At the end of the day, no one can fault the restaurant worker for seeking payment for the food they served. The argument of whether or not their action of keeping the girls inside was appropriate is a matter of perspective.
Despite differing opinions, we can all agree that this incident is a highly embarrassing one, and no one wants friends who put them in situations where they find themselves locked in a restaurant arguing about rice and veggies.
