“That's straight bussin fr fr no cap on God”: Things nobody said in the 80s and 90s...

The current generation is completely different from the generations of the 80s and 90s in many ways, including politics, culture, technology, attitudes, and even gender roles.

In a Facebook post by The Mind Unleashed that asked people to list things that were not commonly said in the 80s and 90s, the comments section was filled with a number of new phrases that are specific to today's generation.

Let's take a look at 20 of these newly-occurring things that were not commonly heard in the 80s and 90s.

“That's straight bussin fr fr no cap on God”

Basically, when someone drops this phrase, they're letting you know that they're speaking straight facts with no added fluff.

It's a perfect example of the laid-back, casual way in which today's generation communicates the truth, which is different from previous decades.

“I'm offended”

People seem to be quick to jump to conclusions and easily get offended these days, which wasn't the case in the 80s and 90s.

As a result, today's world requires more caution, as the likelihood of offending someone is significantly higher compared to the past.

“Did you just assume my gender?”

Gender identity has come a long way since the 80s and 90s. There are many different gender identities in today’s world, including transgender, agender, gender neutral, non-binary, and many others.

Now, the practice of being respectful towards others' gender identities is seen as crucial, though it can be a source of annoyance for some.

“Where is your mask?”

The days of carefree walks without a mask are a thing of the past. The 80s and 90s were a time when one could go everywhere without having to think about masking their face.

Now, the new and older generations alike must face the constant reminder to "mask up" due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

“Do you need a safe space?”

The 80s and 90s didn't prioritize the need for safe spaces, where people could take a break from criticism, judgment, and negativity.

Fortunately, more people now understand the importance of having a place to feel supported and respected, which is a big plus in today's world.

“Bye Felicia”

Today's generation has a knack for creating quick, snappy phrases to get their point across, and sometimes, the message isn't exactly friendly.

Take "Bye Felicia" for example – a slang way of saying goodbye to someone you don't care about or who's getting on your nerves.

“There is so much bad music out there”

Music used to be pretty straightforward, with few singers and bands dominating the scene and appealing to most people. Fast forward to today and the music industry has exploded, with everyone seemingly making music.

It's great to have a wide range of options, but it also means that you'll come across tons of music that may not be your cup of tea.

“Send me a pin drop”

Technology has come a long way since the 80s and 90s, and this ability to effortlessly communicate one's location is a luxury that many from older generations would have never thought possible.

With just a quick pin drop, you can share your exact location with others by saving GPS coordinates instead of a street address that could be miles away. Is it not true that in some ways, this generation has it easier?

“Misogyny”

Misogyny was a term not widely used in the 80s and 90s, which refers to hatred, prejudice, or contempt against women.

It's likely that women didn't have the bravery to confront disrespectful men, rather than the absence of misogyny during that time period.

“Here’s my phone, let’s take a selfie”

The younger generation may take for granted the ability to take pictures and selfies with their phones, but for those who lived in the 80s and 90s, having such a device was just a dream.

Fortunately, this is now a reality that’s available at an affordable price for almost everyone.

“Hey Siri”

Back in the 80s and 90s, the idea of having a virtual assistant like Siri was pure science fiction. To get information, you had to hit the library or use an encyclopedia.

But now, with smart devices and the internet at our fingertips, asking Siri is just as easy as asking a question. With just your voice, you can get answers, set reminders, make calls, and even control your smart home – what a time to be alive!

“He snuck into my DMs”

Expressing love in the 80s and 90s was limited to face-to-face interactions or written letters, but social media has made it a breeze to send a direct message to someone you're interested in.

With just a few taps, you can reach out to multiple romantic prospects, and sit back to wait for a response (if you even get one).

“OK Boomer”

The phrase "Okay Boomer" has become popular among Millennials and Gen Z, which is used to dismiss or mock attitudes often associated with the Baby Boomer generation.

However, it's worth remembering that this type of hostility against older generations was not present in the 80s and 90s, something that the current generation could learn from those times.

“I need to know your political affiliations”

In the past, political affiliations weren't given as much weight as they are today. With the rise of diverse political beliefs, however, it may be just as important to know someone's political stance as it is to know their name, age, or job.

With political opinions being more divided than ever, this generation has to confront the new normal and adapt to the diverse political landscape to succeed in both their social and romantic lives.

“Bro I’m stressed”

The concept of stress and anxiety was not part of the common dialogue in the past. This may explain why some older generations don't fully understand the depression and stress that younger people experience today.

One perk of living in today's society is the increased understanding and awareness of stress and anxiety, which has made it easier to deal with these emotions.

“I’m gay”

Back in the 80s and 90s, being gay was not widely accepted, and coming out was a brave and often stigmatized choice.

However, the current generation is much more accepting of diverse sexual orientations, and it's become more common and accepted to openly identify as LGBTQ+.

“She’s a Karen”

It's evident that the current generation likes to invent terms to quickly convey their intended message, even if it may appear offensive like the slang term "Karen".

This term is frequently used in various memes, TikTok videos, and social media posts. It usually refers to a middle-aged white woman, who is considered entitled, difficult, and sometimes aggressive.

“There's an app for that”

The wide range of apps available today, covering everything from cooking to fitness to dating and beyond, make life easier in many ways.

With just a few clicks or taps on our smartphones, we now have access to a multitude of useful apps, something that those who lived in the 80s and 90s would be envious of.

“Vegan”

It was rare before to come across someone who followed a vegan diet, but now it's a common lifestyle choice for many people.

However, with the growing awareness of the impact of animal agriculture on the environment and animal welfare, the shift towards a meat-free diet is clearly driven by noble causes.

“Is that gluten free?”

Back then, the thought of gluten-free products was foreign to most people. However, the demand for such products has skyrocketed in recent times, resulting in the widespread availability of gluten-free options.

It's possible that either people back then didn't have gluten sensitivities or simply didn't care about the consequences of consuming gluten.
