The TikTok community was taken aback by a video showing a delivery driver being caught by his boss for eating customer orders.
Working in the food industry can be a difficult and sometimes low-paying job, but does that mean workers can eat deliveries meant for customers? Or is there nothing that can justify this type of behavior?
This debate was sparked recently by an 8-second TikTok video in which a boss caught a worker eating customer deliveries and reacted angrily to his action.
TikToker @popzlive posted a video on January 30th that quickly went viral, garnering over 463k views in a single day. It was recorded in the kitchen of a pizzeria, with the caption, “Customers kept calling saying food was missing from their orders & it turned out to be him".
The TikToker added context to the video with a text overlay that reads, "Boss caught him eating deliveries."
The short clip shows a man who seems to be the boss, picking up a small box of food from the ground and throwing it in the trash while speaking inaudible words in an angry manner.
At the end of the video, the boss is shown picking up two delivery bags from the floor, one of which had the Pizza Hut logo on it, indicating that the incident took place at the chain restaurant.

Commenters were divided on whether the worker should be held responsible for eating food that was not theirs or if they should sympathize with the worker, who may have done so because they were hungry and not earning enough to cover their food expenses.
It was clear from the comment section that this issue is a matter of debate. Some people believed that the worker should be held accountable, regardless of their motivations, and felt that nothing could justify taking someone else's food.
However, others had sympathy for the worker, understanding that they may simply be hungry and unable to afford food. "He should be held accountable but damn that's sad i feel like his smile is to hide the pain," one user commented.
"Whilst I think he needs to be held accountable for stealing customers food I can't help but feel he's starving, down on his luck," a second agreed.
“I’m not saying this is right, but I totally understand,” a third shared.

On the other hand, some people placed the entire blame on the boss who may not have been providing their employee with enough pay to afford a decent meal.
“I mean maybe they should pay their employees enough to afford the food they serve,” one wrote.
"Feed your employees duhh," another suggested.
“Damn y'all don't let them get some food for working there, one personal pan or something," one asked.
From a completely different viewpoint, one person wondered how the employee could even think about food during their working hours, when their mind should only be on counting the hours until their workday is over.
“how do you even muster up the thought to do that lol, like when I work I turn into a literal robot that only thinks about how long left I have to work,” they wrote.
Some viewers had some thoughts on how to keep this from happening again, suggesting, "Why not just put a sticker on the box/bag to prevent this possiblity...?"
Ultimately, whether you think the worker was justified in their actions due to not being paid enough for a meal or believe that nothing excuses taking someone else's food, we can all agree that food workers, who work hard all day get our food delivered fast, deserve to be able to afford a decent meal for themselves as well.
