A woman went viral on TikTok and sparked online debates after claiming that it is "disrespectful" for a first job interview to be in person when there are apps like Zoom.
Natalya Haddix talks about "nightmare" job application
TikTok Natalya Haddix documented her "nightmare" job application experience, including attending the first interview in person, filing an application, and hearing about the starting salary.
TikTok poster said she was "disrespected"
The young woman started her viral clip, "I have never been so disrespected in my life. What I just experienced in this job interview, like what I just went through…there's no clearer way to tell people that you are interviewing that we don't give a s... about our employees. We don't care about them."
She was asked to come for an interview
Natalya said, "I get a response from one company, Brand IQ, in Miami, Florida, and they're like, 'Oh, we liked your application. We'd like to interview you. Can you come in for this interview?'" The woman said it was inconvenient because she had to drive 45 minutes and would have preferred "a phone call, a Zoom call."
Red flags
Before the interview, the woman shared she saw some red flags regarding the company. These included their mission, vision, brand, voice, and values, and "they want to pay $36,00-$38,000 in Miami, Florida." Natalya still went "to find out what they're about." She continued, "I walk up to their office, which isn't even an office. It's a little room with these two glass fishbowls like side by side."
Too much paperwork
The woman said that there were ten more people inside. She added, "This receptionist stands up, and she was like, 'Oh hey, I need you to fill this out.' I'm like, fill what out? Like you have my application, and you have my resume; I even brought a resume with me. Literally, a paper application as if I were applying for, I don't know, a summer job or something."
Not the ideal interview
Natalya explained, "Then, in the fishbowl right next to us, there's this man interviewing these people right in front of us. I can hear everything they're saying. I suddenly know things about these that I don't need to be knowing."
Natalya was left waiting
She said, "After my interview time slot has gone and passed, and I'm still sitting there, this guy comes in and asks two other people to go with him. I'm still sitting, and I'm like, 'What am I doing here?' So I ask the girl, what is this process? What is going on?"
The woman saw enough
After satisfying her curiosity, the woman said, "I literally said thank you so much, but I'm actually good, and I got up and walked out. Like if you wanna show people that you do not care about your employees that they are dispensable to you, literally just have an interview process like that."
Divided comments
One person wrote, "What? People in their 30s and 40s have to do exactly the same, and we didn’t have Zoom calls, so stop complaining. It’s ridiculous." Another said, "This happened to me once. It sounds like it was actually a cold calling/sales job. They always mislabel the job title to get people to apply!"
Some supported the woman
Someone shared, "People are being critical of this woman, but there are valid points being made." Another added, "I would have walked at filling out the paper application. I have never seen an actual professional job that does that."
Do your research
This person wrote, "I always do research before I apply for a job & read the reviews on the job cause lord did I learn my lesson in the past." Another stated, "Elder millennial here…I'm glad this Generation is not taking it! I went through this so much!" Where do you stand?
