A woman has recently posted to the AITA subreddit to ask the internet if she was wrong to refuse to attend her sister’s (who she calls “Lisa” for the sake of the story) child-free wedding.
Especially considering that she is pregnant and by the time the event kicks off, she will have a 5-month-old.
Woman Won’t Attend Sister’s Child-Free Wedding Because She’s Pregnant
The OP (Original Poster) starts the story off by explaining that her sister is getting married later this year and that the event is child-free.
Since the OP will have given birth before the wedding, she decided to ask her sister if her child could attend with her since she does not feel comfortable leaving her small child with a sitter, and most of her reliable family members will be at the wedding.
Of course, her sister said no, but the OP said she was fine with this, and she told her that she would not come.
“Stop pretending to be “holier-than-thou”,” says Sister
However, Lisa got extremely angry about this and told the OP to stop pretending to be “holier-than-thou” and to stop punishing her for having a child-free wedding. A decision her sister decided to make, not the OP, despite knowing she was pregnant.
According to the post, the OP’s sister wanted her to give a speech at the wedding as the sister of the bride. Her sister also went on to explain that she has friends with kids and could give the OP the numbers of their trusted sitters, but the OP refused.
Their mom even came up with an arrangement for the OP, but she didn’t want her mom to sacrifice her attendance, especially because it was important to her sister if both parents are there.
The woman ends the post explaining that she just feels like she’s looking out for her kid, but she’s worried she could be being an a...hole about it and wants advice from the internet.

Many Redditors Agreed With The OP
Luckily, most people were on her side. A lot of people argued that the OP’s sister is being extremely inconsiderate and naive.
One person commented, “NTA (Not The A...hole) People are allowed to have child-free weddings, they are not allowed to be offended when people don't come. Honest, I would always have chosen my kids.”
“Don't forget an invitation is not a summons. NTA.”
“NTA. The sister knew she's pregnant and seemed to forget that this condition produces a child. SMH.”
It seems only right that if you set particular conditions up for any event, and people choose not to attend because of them, you can’t be offended.
So far, the OP hasn’t given an update on whether anyone has changed their mind on the matter.
