Many people give Gift Cards as a nice and thoughtful gesture to their friends and loved ones. No one expects their gift cards to be scams.
However, a woman bought a $100 apple gift card that couldn’t be used because of white-out.
So to avoid a lot of heartache and confusion, one woman decided to use TikTok to issue a public service announcement about a $100 Apple Gift card she bought at Target.
The woman, whose username is @tommyxlin, shows herself standing by gift cards at a Target. She starts the story off by explaining that she and her husband had recently bought a $100 Apple gift card from the store.
However, after opening the card, the barcode was whited out, which rendered the gift card useless.
Multiple Cards On The Shelf Were The Same, Except The $25 Ones
As anyone else would do in this situation, she went back to Target to get a refund, and they stated she needed to get in contact with customer service about it.
The woman then goes to the gift card section and shows her viewers that multiple cards they have hung up for sale are all the same. The barcode is whited out, and each one is unusable.
Except for the $25 gift cards, as their barcodes were visible.
The TikToker took it upon herself to warn others of the scam, emphasizing that Target had refused to give her a refund for the purchase. They get $100, she gets a useless piece of plastic.

They explained that if you buy one of these cards, you have to keep your receipt and get in contact with Apple customer service about the scam.
Others also mentioned that scams are at an all-time high during the holidays because it’s a money-spending season, so scammers are looking for ways to get in on the profit. They warned others to be vigilant when shopping.
In a follow-up video, the woman shared a closeup clip of the card.
She and her husband tried to scrap off the white-out, but whatever the scammers used was very strong, so they had no success in that attempt.
