In her recent Reddit post, the 26-year-old OP reveals that she had been invited, along with the rest of her family, to her grandparents' 54th wedding anniversary celebration.
Her 28-year-old sister had brought her 39-year-old boyfriend along, which the OP believes isn't unusual since the couple has been together for three years.

Despite the fact that the sister has been dating her boyfriend for a significant amount of time, the OP admits that she has never liked him due to what she considers to be a significant age gap.

She also explains that the sister's boyfriend was actually her professor in college, which has made things "really awkward" for her when they’re together.
Although she admits to being cold to him, their parents seem to be perfectly fine with him.

Seizing the moment to demonstrate his commitment, the 39-year-old boyfriend dropped to one knee and proposed to his 28-year-old girlfriend at the grandparents' anniversary dinner.

While the proposal was meant to be a romantic moment, the girlfriend's sister found the proposal "weird" given that it was her grandparents' anniversary dinner, and the focus should have been on them.

“I stood up and cleared my throat at them to try and send them the message that this was not the time or place,” the sister shares in the Reddit post.

Although she recognized that it might not have been her place to speak up, she felt compelled to do so because she never liked her sister's boyfriend and believed the proposal was taking place in an inappropriate setting.

The boyfriend didn't take kindly to the interruption and began yelling at the sister, accusing her of ruining their special moment, while the sister stood beside him with her arms crossed.
“No one else said anything and we left immediately after,” the OP adds.
Guilt & Regret

The sister is now overwhelmed with guilt, feeling as though she has ruined her grandparents' anniversary and, to make matters worse, has angered her sister and her boyfriend.
She writes in the post, “I can’t stop thinking about how awkward the whole situation was.”

According to a Redditor who voted "ESH", the sister's boyfriend is an "a..hole" for making someone else's celebration about himself, describing the entire situation as “gross and tacky.”
They continued, “Sister is an a..hole for going along with the above. I'd be livid and completely humiliated if I were her. You're an a..hole for making an even bigger scene.”
Blaming the Sister Entirely

One Redditor placed the entirety of the blame on the sister, arguing that she was the only one who acted inappropriately.
“It wasn't your party, it wasn't your engagement, it's not your boyfriend, it's not your choice. You were a fellow guest, not the host. You're right, it wasn't your place to say something. Learn how to just suck it up and deal.”

Others offered a different perspective, placing the blame on the 39-year-old college professor for dating a younger woman.
“That age gap is no bueno. He’s a self-centered a..hole. NTA,” they wrote, while another added, “The age gap is fine, they started dating when she was 25 and he was 36; she’s old enough to make her own decisions. The professor thing is pretty awful though, that’s the real issue here.”

In an update by the OP, she states that her sister and her boyfriend are not currently engaged even after the proposal.
“Her boyfriend took back his proposal and claimed that he was drunk when he proposed,” she clarifies.”That might make more sense as to why he yelled at me.”
