It's no surprise that online dates can go wrong for many reasons, and in one woman's case, an extra $3 charge for cheese on her burger at a New York City restaurant was the final straw that ended the evening.
Although Hinge claims to prioritize long-term connections between its users, it seems to have fallen short in the case of a woman named Dafna, who recounted her date ending with her paying for the man's meal and then blocking him.
Dafna shares that both she and her date arranged to meet for dinner, and as they sat at the restaurant, everything seemed to be going well with no signs of “catfish.”
However, things took a sudden turn when the waitress approached to take their order.
When the waitress mentioned that adding cheese would incur an additional charge of $3, Dafna’s date opted against it, deciding that the pleasure of a gooey cheesy burger wasn’t worth the extra cost.
“Oh, my God, you have to pay extra for everything these days,” the man told Dafna.
She was taken aback that her date would decline the offer of the cheesy burger just to avoid the $3 extra, exclaiming, “And I'm like, what the actual f...k?”
Despite the awkward turn of events with the cheesy burger, she decided to continue with the date as she was hungry and eager to eat her branzino.
She waited until she finished her meal before excusing herself to the restroom. Once there, she grabbed her purse and headed to the waitress, saying, “Hey, I just want to pay the bill.”
The total came to $55, which she promptly paid before walking out of the restaurant. Dafna then sent a text to her date letting him know that the check was taken care of.

While Dafna's TikTok video went viral, the comments section didn't turn out the way she expected.
A lot of viewers argued that the guy "lucked out" in this situation, not only getting a free meal but also getting to “hide his aggressive lactose intolerance.”
Many others took the side of the "Cheese Man" in the Hinge date, with one person questioning, “Who would pay $3 for a slice of cheese?”
“I would not pay $3 for a f...ing cheese slice,” a second commented.
“$3 for a slice of cheese is criminal!!” a third wrote.
“He can choose how he wants to spend his money, $3 for a slice of cheese is crazy,” a fourth suggested, “He didn’t tell you not to get cheese he just decided not to.”
“The problem is people are too quick to judge someone off one comment,” a fifth argued, “You didn’t even give him a chance based on a piece of cheese.”
“Justice for Cheese Man,” a sixth called for.
At the end of the day, Dafna's Hinge date might not have gone as smoothly as she had hoped, but it certainly provided a good laugh for those of us on the internet.
From the cheeseless burger to the unexpected bill-paying, this date had all the ingredients of a memorable evening, but not necessarily in a good way.
And while opinions may differ on whether the "Cheese Man" made the right choice or not, he still ended up with a free burger and a date with Dafna, so it's hard to say he lost out in any way.
