His Girlfriend Told Him She Was with a Friend, but That Friend Was with Him the Whole Time, Picking an Engagement Ring for Her

“God this is a doozy,” he wrote, “I swear my life feels like a movie right now.” A man has decided to turn to the wisdom of the r/relationshipadvice subreddit when his girlfriend claimed to be hanging out with her friend.

Even though that friend – in some kind of matrix-like sorcery – was sitting right next to him.

Man Explains That He’s Planning On Proposing To His GF

The story starts off with the OP (Original Poster) explaining that he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend of 3 years.

He admits that he isn’t the best at picking out jewelry(and expresses his contention with people who have a problem with heart-shaped necklaces), so whenever the time arises for him to do so, he calls on a friend.

“I usually consult one of our mutual friends,” he wrote, “My girl's best friends are all friends with me as well and we all get along well, so asking them for help picking out jewelry is something I'm used to.”

He decided to reach out to one of his girlfriend’s best friends named “Justine” (pseudonym for the story) as she knows his girlfriend more than anyone, and would have the best input concerning what kind of jewelry he should get his girl.

OP Consults With GF’s Bestfriend On What Ring To Buy Her For The Proposal

When the OP’s girlfriend decided to go visit her sister and nephew, the OP invited Justine over to help him browse through jewelry catalogs for a ring.

However, they eventually stopped at a dead end and decided to go to a professional jeweler for help.

Unsure when his girlfriend was getting home, he and Justine decided to craft a clever text to figure out when she would be back so they could decide how much time they had to find a ring and order takeout as a sweet gesture for when she got back.

The OP Is With His GF’s Friend…Apparently She Is Too!

But things took an interesting twist when his girlfriend responded.

“She responded by saying it would be a few hours, she met up with Justine to go shopping.”

The OP was surprised and confused at the text since the friend his girlfriend claimed to be hanging out with was sitting right there beside him. He showed the text to Justine, and even she was confused!

The OP explains that it’s not strange for his girlfriend’s plans to switch up as she’s “very spontaneous” and loves making plans on the fly. At any other time, he would have believed the likely story if not for one of the “characters” being currently present in his home with him.

When his girlfriend came home, she acted as if everything was completely normal. The OP explains that he played along and continued acting as if everything was fine. They got the food, they ate, and then they cuddled.

But the OP’s girlfriend noticed something was off with him and decided to ask about it.

“But I just can't tell her what,” he wrote, “Looking at her kills me.”

The OP explains that before this, he and his girlfriend had “zero trust issues” and that they usually tell each other everything. He wants to ask her about it but he isn't sure how to.

“What do I do? I know she lied to me but I don't know how to confront her about it. Should I just forget it? This won't stop gnawing at me. Please help!”

Redditors were quick to weigh in with advice on what he should do

One commenter summed it up perfectly:

“I know you say you can’t tel her why you know, but I honestly think you should. You don’t want this to bug you forever and propose to a girl that could be potentially hiding something. Just say you were hanging out with Justine because you needed help with a gift, so you know she wasn’t with her. And see what she says. Trust and communication is important and it would suck to know you propose to a girl who could be doing you wrong, but also just as bad to sit there and let that lie eat you alive.”

She Confessed

OP, who is a snake enthusiast, confronted his girlfriend about her whereabouts, as he had suspected her of cheating. However, she confesses that she was not seeing anyone else, but rather buying him a Kenyan sand boa snake as a surprise. The man was surprised and happy with the unexpected gift, but felt bad for ruining the surprise. He and his girlfriend are planning to pick up the snake next week.

In conclusion, the man's suspicion of infidelity turned out to be a misunderstanding, and instead led to a happy outcome with the surprise of a new pet. It serves as a reminder to always communicate openly with our loved ones and not jump to conclusions.
