"You were just being cheap": Woman ghosts man after first date because he didn't order the extra $3 guacamole with his tacos, and thus stripped himself of “the luxury of life”

A woman left the man confused after ghosting him following their first date. He reached out to her through 99.9 Virgin Radio for answers, only to be met with her response that she didn't want to see him again because he didn't order the extra $3 guacamole with his tacos at Moxies.

Paul gets ghosted out of the blue

During episode 130 of "Ghosted" on 99.9 Virgin Radio, a man named Paul shared his confusion about why a woman he found "absolutely stunning" never responded to him after their first date.

“I think I was ghosted since Saturday,” Paul shares on the radio episode. 

Going on a Date with an “Absolutely Stunning” Woman

According to Paul, he went out with a woman named Denise whom he had been chatting with online.

He thought the date went well, so he messaged her on Sunday to express how great he thought she was. 

Ghosted after a Promising Date

Much to his disappointment, Denise didn't respond after Paul gave her compliments following their date. 

“So, I’m kind of counting that as a ghosty,” he says.  

Denise Looked Better In Person

Paul shares that he took Denise out to eat and had a great conversation. He described her as "absolutely stunning" and was “taken aback” by how much better she looked in person, but he didn't express this to her during their date.

When asked by Adam if anything bad happened during the date, Paul says that he tends to overanalyze things, but there was nothing negative he could remember.

Seeking Answers

With Paul feeling uncertain about whether he called Denise too early or if he did something wrong that led to her lack of response after their good date, Adam decides to give Denise a call to hear from her directly and hopefully help Paul clear up his confusion.

Adam explains to Denise that 99.9 Virgin Radio is reaching out to her because they caught wind of her ghosting someone after Saturday, and she instantly recognizes it must be Paul.

Unexpected Confrontation

In a distressed tone, Denise questions, "Did Paul actually give you my number to call me?" Jax inquires if that's the case and asks if she minds speaking with them. Denise responds negatively, and seizes the opportunity to express her feelings towards Paul, perhaps not in the most thoughtful manner.

She’s Just Not Interested

"Doesn't the guy know how to take a hint?" she questions. "If I don’t talk to you anymore after we’ve met, that’s a pretty clear sign that I’m just not interested.”

When Adam asked her if there was a reason why she ghosted Paul that he should know, she answered that she did so because he "needs to take a class on first-date etiquette."

She goes on, "He gave me the 'ick' almost immediately."

Denise then shares the specifics of why she thinks Paul lacks first-date etiquette. She mentions that when they went to Moxies, it wasn't an issue because it was conveniently located near her place, and he was dressed casually and looking cute. 

However, this good first impression came crashing down once they ordered her food, which, according to Denise, revealed everything about Paul to her.

When Guac Goes Wrong

Adam's guess that Denise ghosted Paul because he ordered chicken fingers was incorrect; he actually ordered tacos. 

However, things seemed fine until the server asked if he wanted guacamole with it, and when he asked if it was extra, the server confirmed it was, and that's when Denise decided he wasn’t the man she wants to live with.

Taken aback, Jax asks Denise, "It was because of the guac?" Denise responds with a simple "Yeah." 

Paul, who has been on the line the whole time, then intervenes in the call and asks in disbelief, "You ghosted me because I refused the guac?"

Paul Left In Disbelief

Paul can't believe that Denise ghosted him not because of his looks or personality, but because of something he ordered. 

However, Denise corrects him by saying, "No genius, it's based on what you didn't order. You not opting for guacamole tells me you're willing to settle for the bare minimum in front of me, even on our first date."

“You’re a Penny Pincher"

Jax suggested to Denise that maybe Paul was trying to be "savvy with his money." But Denise quickly retorts, "If he's refusing guacamole on our first date, the next thing he'll do is cheap out on trips, the car he buys, and where we live together.”

No Time for Playing Games

Denise, who is 32 years old, emphasizes that she's done playing games in her 20s and is now seeking stability and security in a relationship. 

She wants someone who shares her lifestyle and values, and is financially responsible enough to not cheap out on basic things like guacamole on a first date.

A $3 Extra Guac is a Life "Luxury" for Denise

Paul tells her that all he said was no to guac that cost an extra 3 bucks, asking her how this makes her feel insecure. 

She screams at him, saying that before he ordered the taco, he was excited to have it with guacamole, but he changed his mind once he found out it was extra. “You’re stripping yourself from the luxury of life, you’re satisfied with the basics.”

"You Were Just Being Cheap"

Denise goes on to explain that she believes in treating herself when she wants to, and she expects her future partner to do the same, especially on a special occasion like a first date. 

No Second Chances

At the conclusion of the episode, Denise declines Paul's offer for a second date, even though he offered to pay for guacamole this time, stating firmly, "I don't want to see Paul again."
