First dates can be a source of excitement and anticipation, but reality can fall short. The spark may be missing, the conversation dull, or the worst-case scenario is a date who thinks he's doing you a favor by ordering you something you didn’t ask, monitoring your calorie intake, and boasting about being the best option.
TikToker Talisa is the perfect example, sharing her bad date story in a video titled “Dating in 2023 be like…”
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, garnering over 2 million views and tens of thousands of horrified reactions as seen in the comments.
Talisa opened the video by showcasing the dining table where she sat with her date, accompanied by the caption, “Dating a ‘Nice Guy’ He controlled everything and made me feel awkawrd”
She let the know that she's a big fan of seafood and that she’d like to order scallops.
Her date – who was "trying" to act like a gentleman – offered to order for her and boasted, “I know what you want,” and “I’ll surprise you.”
To which she replied: “I hate surprises.”
Despite this, Talisa tried to trust the man and acknowledged that he was more familiar with the place than she was.
Confidently, he replied: “Yes I do.”
Talisa asked him what he was getting, and he told her he was getting the rib eye steak served with mashed potatoes.
Then she asked: “So what are you gonna order for me then?”
And while Talisa was very clear about her love for seafood, the man took no notice and stated that he would be ordering the same meal for her as for himself: the rib eye steak and mashed potatoes.
He even went so far as to suggest that she shouldn't drink any wine, “you don’t want wine.” he said.
She was taken aback by his suggestion and asked, “You don’t like red wine? Is it not good or something?”
To which he replied: “You don’t want to add on any calories, do you?”
“No,” she said, “but I mean we’re on a nice little date so I think I can ignore it for now."
He told Talisa that he would order her a drink that would suit what she was looking for, and when she asked, “What the hell am I looking for?”His reply was simply, “Something with less calories.”
He even boasted about his exceptional ability to treat ladies, claiming that he has “a cut above the rest.”

Talisa went to the bathroom and recorded herself, saying, “Oh my God, I can’t even f...ing talk. Okay, I can’t even order. He thinks he’s being so nice.”
Looking close to crying, Talisa was so overwhelmed by his behavior that she asked to pay for her own bill, but, trying to be a gentleman, he declined the offer.
“No, no, no listen. I’ve had an experience like this in the past and I do not want to repeat,” she said.
He insisted that he take care of the bill and told her “you will not embarrass me.”
To which she replied: “Okay don’t worry about it, just don’t make a scene.”
Now that the date was over, she wanted to “run into the car” but he, once more, declined and said that “a gentleman have to get the door”
Talisa thanked him and the video ended there.

Talisa’s video caused a stir online, with over 100k comments from shocked people, and others who couldn't resist cracking jokes about the date.
“Serial killer,” one wrote
“The way he says everything feels sociopathic,” a second added.
“you're better than me. you were far more polite than he deserved,” a third shared.
“He sounds like the guy that makes all the nice guy impressions on tiktok,” a fourth pointed out.

Whether you believe this man to be a true gentleman or not, the story of Talisa's date, which left her close to tears, is a reminder that it's best not to have sky-high expectations on a first date.
