A loyal dog named Pudding has been patiently waiting for its family, unaware that they will never return after tragically losing their lives in South Korea’s deadliest air disaster.
All nine members of Pudding’s family were among the 179 victims of the Jeju Air Flight 112 catastrophe on Sunday. The ill-fated plane crashed into a wall at Muan International Airport, erupting into a fireball. Only two cabin crew members survived the tragedy.
Now, Pudding is left alone in a village in Yeonggwang County, still waiting for its 79-year-old owner, who never returned home from a trip to Thailand.
His wife, two daughters, son-in-law, six-year-old granddaughter, and three grandsons also perished in the crash.
The family had traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to celebrate Pudding’s owner’s 80th birthday.
After the tragedy, the dog was seen wandering alone between the family home and the village center, deepening the sorrow felt by the local community.
Pudding was seen staring at passing cars and buses, as if searching for its family, according to South Korea’s animal rights group, Care, in an Instagram post.
The post read: “I met Pudding, who was sitting on the steps in front of the roadway party, waiting anxiously.”
A video shared by the organization shows the dog’s eyes filled with confusion and grief.
Knowing the family had perished in the disaster, sympathetic villagers fed Pudding until Care intervened and rescued the dog.
“We determined it was unsafe for Pudding to roam the village without a caretaker,” the group explained.
Pudding is now under Care’s protection while they search for a loving family to adopt the loyal pet.
The dog’s unwavering devotion to its family has drawn comparisons to Hachiko, the legendary Akita in Japan who waited every day at a train station for his deceased owner to return.
