While tipping is typically a way of expressing gratitude for someone's effort, this isn’t always the case. A restaurant server shared how tipping can turn into an unpleasant and unwanted experience, even if the tip is as large as $300.
In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, Quinn Pratt recounted how customers once asked him to play a game in exchange for a tip, but he immediately declined because he didn't believe that servers should have to act like "trained little monkeys" to amuse people and earn a bigger tip.
During his shift as a server, Quinn was called over by some customers – possibly YouTubers or TikTokers – who asked him to play a game for his tip as they grabbed their phones and started recording.
The game involved selecting one of four or five envelopes on the table, each containing a tip ranging from $1 to $300.
He had the choice to either keep the envelope he selected or exchange it for a new one, ultimately receiving the envelope he selected.
Quinn firmly declined to play the game.
“Dude, I ain't got time for this bullsh..t. I am super busy. Whatever you leave me as a tip is my tip. I don't give a f...k. I'm not here to play a little game with you.”
“I am at my place of employment. Not here to play some f...ked up little carnival game that you devise and put together in order to get some views and likes on TikTok. “
He said that he never visits someone's place of work to distract or interfere with their job, asking the customers not to do it to him or other servers.
“I am not here for your entertainment or your channel,” he clarified.
"Whoa, I'm just trying to give you a chance to get $300,” one of them responded.
Quinn wasn't sold on their offer and believed they were just trying to use him to promote their channel. “I don't have time to play this little f...king game of yours,” he said.

“And surprise, surprise, he didn't leave a tip after he left.” Quinn continues.
His main point in sharing this story is that if you want to show appreciation for a server because you think they're underpaid, just do it.
“Don't make a stupid a..s game out of it trying to further your channel. It's very obvious that this is self-serving. You want to do it for likes and views and attention.”
While Quinn is okay with people recording themselves giving generous tips, he opposes the idea of servers being made to perform like "trained little monkeys" to entertain people and earn generous tips.

Quinn wasn't sure if his TikTok video would get much attention, but it ended up going viral on the platform.
Viewers were quick to show their support for Quinn and share their opinions on the matter, with one commenter pointing out, “The fact that he didn’t tip says it all.”
“You are 100% in the right,” a second wrote, adding that what the customers did was “degrading.”
“I’m glad you stood your ground,” a third commented.
“Wonder if he would have liked the game in reverse. Pick from these envelopes for your meal. From a slice of cheese to a steak,” a third suggested, while another chimed in, “If they want to play game the lowest amount should be 20%.”
