A video recently shared by a woman who has been on Depo ( a hormone used for contraception) for 10 years without knowledge of its long-term effects from her male doctor has left people shocked at the extended period during which she has been taking the birth control.
TikToker Morgan Roos reveals how she only learned from her new female doctor about the risks of staying on Depo for so long, which her previous male doctor never informed her of

Morgan says she recently switched from a male doctor to a female doctor, and she asked her new doctor to renew her birth control prescription.
The doctor was shocked when she learned that she had been using Depo-Provera for ten years

The doctor then asked about the type of birth control Morgan was on, to which she replied that she had been using Depo-Provera for the last decade and liked it because it stopped her periods.
“And her jaw drops to the floor,” Morgan says.
"This is not a long-term birth control"

“Did you just say 10 years?” the doctor exclaimed, “Holy sh-t…This is like a two-year max birth control this is not a long-term birth control.”
The previous male doctor forgot about the maximum period

Her new gynecologist was shocked that her previous male doctor had never mentioned this to her. When asked about it, Morgan replied that her previous doctor had simply prescribed it to her without explaining the two-year maximum period.
She was then advised to stop using birth control for some time

“We’re getting you off that immediately,” the doctor told her, noting that Morgan would have to stop using birth control for a while to allow the hormones to leave her system.
Morgan was horrified when she learned the long-term effects of the said birth control

Later, Morgan researched the long-term effects of Depo-Provera on Google. “And I’m f--king just stressing out,” she says, “that’s why I shouldn’t leave my f--king reproductive health in the hands of a negligent man.”

Many viewers were just as taken aback as Morgan about the risks of being on Depo for an extended duration. One user shared, “7 years of being on the depo and I'm just finding this out now from your video.”
Another wrote, “Me watching this video with a male gyno on my 4th year of depo.”

Others were quick to offer support to Morgan by sharing their own coping strategies for dealing with the side effects of stopping Depo, with one commenting, “It’s going to be a terrible period. Order raspberry leaf tea. It will help SO much with the cramps. It saved me during my post ivf periods.”
"It's not about a man or a woman", a viewer stated

In response to Morgan's experience with a male gynecologist, some viewers argued that a doctor's gender is not indicative of their ability to provide quality care.
“It’s not about man or a woman,” one stated, “it’s about being a good knowledgeable speacialist. I had man gynaecologist and he was amazing.”
Another chimed in, “My female dr actually almost ruined me, switching to my male dr was a blessing, honestly just depends on the person not the gender!”
