Mother of Two in Tears as She Confesses Her Dangerous Addiction to Consuming Gallons of Paint - "It feels very nice and warm, almost like a thicker version of warm milk"

A mother of two admits that she's drunk three gallons of paint since her addiction started. Now in tears, she is terrified at the thought of ending up as a single mom or, worse yet, losing her life to her strange three-year addiction.

Heather Beal, an Alabama mother of two, opens up about her dangerous addiction on the reality show My Strange Addiction

The 43-year-old admitted that she has consumed nearly three gallons of paint since she first started this peculiar practice three years ago. “One day, I brought the tip of the marker to my tongue, it’s been everyday since then,” she recounts.

Explaining in detail how it feels for her to drink paint, Ms. Beal says, “As it's going down your throat it feels very nice and warm, almost like a thicker version of warm milk. But obviously, it's got that very strong chemical taste, which is perfect to me.”

Seeking Satisfaction

Preferring the paint in marker form, Beal reveals that she satisfies her craving by visiting the hardware store. “I drink paint from markers because I have looked for other paint both in quart or gallon form, and I haven't found one that satisfies my desire,” she shares.

As part of her diet, Beal removes the cap from a single paint marker and consumes its contents on a daily basis.

In her appearance on The TLC show, she demonstrates how she vigorously shakes the paint marker pen to achieve the desired consistency before proceeding to insert it into her mouth. In a different scene, the camera captures Beal's eye twitching as she takes a shot of white paint.

Steps to Extract the Drink

While unwrapping a fresh marker and preparing to access the paint within, Beal remarks in the clip, “You need to shake it up obviously, like your standard paint.”

She explains the process, saying “You can already see that there’s some white paint on the edge, so I’ll put that into my mouth and suck the excess off, take that off, and now you have what I drink.”

Flowing Indulgence

The mother then proceeds to tilt the entire marker into her mouth, allowing the paint to flow, and then licks the dripping paint off her face.

Silent Struggle with Paint Addiction

Beal shares that the peculiar habit started following the death of her mother, emphasizing that no one, particularly her kids, has ever caught her drinking paint until now. She actively seeks out "private places" like her car to practice her bizarre habit while avoiding being seen by her kids.

Despite the mother’s efforts to keep her addiction secret and drink paint away from her children, they have still noticed the evidence either on her teeth or “smelt it on [her] breath.” However, she’s confident that "no one" knows about her addiction until the moment.

The majority of inhalants have a depressant effect on the central nervous system, akin to alcohol. However, inhalant abuse can also result in drowsiness, dizziness, slurred speech, relaxation, nausea, vomiting, euphoria, and hallucinations.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, individuals who use inhalants may experience a loss of motor skills, impaired speech, and cognitive difficulties, which can affect their ability to think, talk, or walk.

Deadly Addiction

The TV show cautions that the chemicals found in paint can lead to dire consequences such as immediate pulmonary bleeding, seizures, and even death.

Overwhelmed by the concerns of being a single mother, Beal becomes emotional and tears up. “If I ever found one of my children trying the paint, I think I would be devastated, in fact, I know I would,” she sobs. “Knowing that I potentially brought that into their lives would devastate me.”

Battling the Temptation

Beal apparently wants to break free from her unusual addiction, as she has made previous attempts to quit but found it “difficult” to do so.

A Wake-Up Call

Beal discovered that her kidney function is abnormal after undergoing medical tests. The severity of the situation becomes even more evident as she is warned about the other dangers associated with drinking paint, including the potential for death.

Doctor Warns of Consequences

The doctor, who discovered sores in Beal’s mouth, warns, “If Heather doesn’t stop drinking the paint, she could suffer from respiratory problems, neurological problems, hearing loss, liver damage, kidney damage, and even death.”

The doctor goes on to say, “That alone would compel me to quit immediately.”

A New Chapter

Ultimately, after consulting with a doctor as part of the program, she is now encouraged to quit the addiction. She says, “I’m ready to do this, because I will quit – I have to.”
